For some time now there has been a wave of emails going out that look like they are from USPS, UPS, FedEx, PayPal, eBay, Amazon and various other big name companies.
While these emails may look very realistic, they are not always what they seem. Unless you know you have a reason to receive an email from a company such as these, it is better off to not open those emails. If you have an email from a company and you are unsure why they are contacting you, call that company and inquire about the email.
There has been a newer form of virus/malware out there called Ransomware. It all started with the Cryptolocker virus we posted about years ago but it has become much more common and much more dangerous. If you get this virus on your computer it will lock all of your files and you will not be able to access them unless you pay the ransom that is demanded. This ransom can range from a couple hundred dollars to thousands of dollars.
Currently there is no way of removing this virus from your computer. You can try t pay the ransom but just remember, they are not the most honest of people you are paying that money to and there is no guarantees they will unlock your files.
The best way to stop this problem is to prevent it from ever happening. Having the proper security on your computer is a big step in prevention. Having just an antivirus is not enough to stop this ransomware. The other way to stop these infections is to use common sense. If you are unsure of an email, do not open it.
